History
The Charminar is an iconic monument located in Hyderabad, Telangana, and holds significant historical and cultural importance.The Charminar was built in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, which ruled the Golconda Sultanate in the Deccan region of South India.The purpose of constructing the Charminar was to commemorate the end of a deadly plague in the city and also to mark the establishment of a new capital city for the dynasty, which was named Hyderabad after the ruling Sultan’s wife, Hyder Mahal.The Charminar is an excellent example of Indo-Islamic architecture, blending elements of Persian, Turkish, and Indian architectural styles.It is constructed primarily of granite, limestone, mortar, and pulverized marble.
